Soccer Days!

This fall, we put Luke into a "Small Fry" soccer league through the YMCA, which we are members of. He seems to enjoy soccer, so we were looking forward to seeing him play and have fun with it. Small Fry is a very non-competitive league, where the coaches just run on the field with them to help them understand the rules. I've gotta tell you, it's one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Seeing 10 3-year-olds chasing a ball around the field, forgetting their direction, and then having teams from other fields running through our field because they don't know to stop when they're out of bounds is quite hilarious. We had many good laughs.

Luke was excited to wear his uniform. Such a cutie!

The format for each week was to have 30 minutes of practice, then 30 minutes to play another team. Here is Luke doing one of his drills: small kick, small kick, big kick to the goal.
Coach Sarah was awesome with the kids...so fun and laid back. Luke loved her. She also played fun games with them during practice - Luke's favorite part. My only issue with her was that she is a Texas Tech graduate, so she named the team the Red Raiders. I swallowed my pride and supported the Red Raiders...just this time. ;-)
He's a really good listener, which was really neat to watch.

Game time...Sarah had a cute little team bench for them to sit on for their water breaks.
Ready for kick-off!
During game time, we called Luke the "electron". He would run in circles around the "nucleus". It was hilarious. He would just run in circles, not paying attention to the ball. During practice, when he had his own ball, he was awesome. But, once there were 10 other kids fighting after the same ball, our sweet, passive boy would just allow them to get the ball instead of him.
Luke even had a cheering crew his first game - our neighbor, Aaron and his 2 boys came to cheer him on!
After the season was over, there was a party for the kids. Yum, yum pizza!
My blue-eyed future soccer player. I have a feeling he will be a lot more aggressive!
Luke with a couple of his new buddies:
Coach Sarah gave them all medals and trophies. He was thrilled!
The sweet little team: Micah, Luke, Megan, Rhys, Brock, Ella & Matthew
We loved this so much, that we decided to do Small Fry basketball starting in January, where Sarah will be his coach again. Haha...stay tuned for funny posts on that!
