Dr. Barret ("Bub") was the boys' pediatrician in Tyler. We loved him. We had heard amazing things about him and his family. Discipleship had been on Greg and my heart since we were first married. We really desired a slightly older couple to pour into us so that we could do the same in the future. Well, he kept pressing the Barret's on our hearts, even though we had never met Monica. One normal doctor visit, when Luke was 9 months old, Greg asked Bub what his heart was for discipling a younger couple. I was really proud of Greg's boldness to follow what God had been putting on his heart for months. Bub's reaction was that he and Monica had actually been praying for new friends and a new ministry, and that this could be an answer to prayer. What started as a 9-month well visit, turned into an amazing life-long friendship. One of the saddest parts about leaving Tyler was leaving this family that we had become so close to.
They came in August and spent Saturday evening at church with us. They even gave a presentation of their ministry to our life group. This was so good for our life group to get an idea of what this ministry that I had been talking up for so long was all about. We had frozen yogurt at the lake after church, then headed back home.
Our boys are used to going to bed between 7:30 and 8:00. So, this Saturday night was a late one for them! But, on Sunday morning, we loaded up and rode on the DART train to Downtown Dallas. Then, we ate at Spaghetti Warehouse and headed to the Dallas World Aquarium.
Here is Jacky Boy munching on his apple (one of my boys' favorite snacks!) on the train.
Checking out the aquarium. Jack was exhausted. Bub was walking around pushing his stroller in really tight circles trying to put him to sleep...no such luck for my stubborn boy!
Look how tired he looks! Poor little guy...he was a trooper! (And, he was excited for the train to come!)
Tootsie Pops for all on the way home! I love this picture...doesn't Luke look like he could be a Barret?
We loved spending this special time with our sweet friends. (And, I'm stoked to spend 10 days in Uganda with them again...just wish the other 3/4's of my family were going to be with me!)
