Dear Luke,
I can not believe you are already THREE years old. I really do feel like you were just born, yet I can't remember much about life before you. Crazy how that works. You are one of the joys of my life. You have such an enthusiastic zeal for life that can't be matched. Your momma is so so so in love with you, Luke Gregory.

Your personality is, well, you just have so much of it that it's hard to put into words. You are such a lion beaver. Mommy and Daddy will explain that to you one day, but it basically means that you're an orderly, hard-working leader. That excites me because I know that God will use that in you when you are older. You are set in your ways. You know what you want and go after it, full-forced. Yet, you're so detailed and notice the little things. I love to watch you with your friends, because you're always the little leader, and you're so creative with things to play. What you come up with astounds me on a daily basis. But, one thing I'm praying that God will develop in you is being teachable. You tend to only see things Luke's way, even when Mommy or Daddy knows best. Bless your heart, you are so convinced in your mind of the way things should be. It's tough for you to submit. Once the Lord develops that teachable, humble trait in you, there is no limit to what He will be able to do through you!

You are with it and always know what's going on with everybody. You love to help with tasks and getting things done. In fact, you're intense about it. You must know how important your jobs are!

Your sense of humor cannot be matched. You are so much like your Daddy. I think you're going to be the life of the party, just like him. Wait a minute, you already are the life of the party. You know how to work the room and talk to everybody. The goofy way you say things sometimes is so much fun. What's great is that you know how to pick up on when Daddy and I are in a silly mood. Then, you chime right in and show us your funny side!

Communication is probably one of your best traits. The sentences you speak and vocabulary you have is incredible. You use every pronoun, verb tense, phrasing, EVERYTHING is right on and beyond your years. Yesterday, our neighbor tried to tease you by asking if the airplane was going to the car wash. Your response: "No, airplanes don't go to car washes. Airplanes get clean when they're parked at the hangars." Well, excuse us, smartie pants! You crack us up. And, your imagination blows us away. Your favorite thing to do right now is play pretend. We pretend to go to the grocery store, fix telephone wires, play at friends' houses, go to restaurants...you name it, you've probably pretended it! Your favorite thing to pretend right now is "mechanic". You'll find all sorts of random things throughout the house or garage to "fix things with". You use kitchen utensils, spoons, sticks, etc. as your mechanic tools. You are so focused on what you are doing, too, which I love about you. You aren't one to get a toy, play with it for a few seconds, then throw it down. You know how to really PLAY.

You also love us to tell you stories. They can be absurd pretend stories or true stories. You love them all and crave hearing more. Sometimes, you even tell us stories. Since we've been going to the library, you're also very much into story books now.

Your absolute favorite show right now is "Little Einsteins". I love it because I really do feel that God has given you a gift for music. You can already point out different instruments in songs that I can't even notice. When you sing, you're right one pitch. I'm already praying that God will develop this gift in you and use it as He wishes for His glory!

You also enjoy watching Handy Manny, Thomas, some Barney, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Speaking of Mickey Mouse...what is it with your fascination of Minnie Mouse lately? You are infatuated with her and get shy and embarrassed when we see pictures of her, Minnie Mouse balloons, or when she shows up on the tv. I hope you're not disappointed to learn one day that she is just a huge, pretend mouse. For now, I think it's sweet. You are just getting into Veggie Tales, too, which even I love to watch!

You are an excellent little eater. You will try just about anything. You love every fruit (except watermelon, oddly enough). Veggies are starting to interest you more, too, much to our delight. Your favorites are carrots, snap peas and broccoli. I think one of your favorite meals we eat is salmon. You love the taste of that! You tend not to enjoy carbs...bread, pasta, potatoes, french fries, etc. We had turkey spaghetti tonight, and you just ate all of the meat. I guess we'll take that, though.

Naps, oh naps. You are such a stinker sometimes when it comes to naptime. You fight and fight and fight sleep. Sometimes, it's a piece of cake. But, Mommy is realizing that I can't force you to sleep, so we are working on what to do during "rest time" on those woeful non-nap days. We'll get there. I'm just a rookie Momma when it comes to non-nappers. Thanks to your new
good nite lite, you do pretty well at staying in your room in the mornings until 7:00, wake up time.

I am so glad that you are fully potty-trained, except at night. You learned quickly once we went cold turkey without diapers, and you were mostly trained by the time you were two-and-a-half. Way to go, buddy! You have become quite independent and do it all by yourself now, from pulling pants down to pulling pants up. So big!

You love your little brother. Teaching him new things is one of your favorite things. He adores you, too, and bounces up and down in his crib waving at you frantically every morning and naptime when he sees you. We are learning that Jack is watching and imitating what you do. Most of the time, that's a very good thing. Sometimes, not so much. I hope your realize one day how important your role in his life is and will be. My favorite thing you do with him is run as fast as you can and grab his bear and his pacifier when he is upset. I think it was a relief for you when he got attached to Bear, because before, you felt obligated to give him your cherished Pony when he was upset. Now, Pony's off the hook, and I think you're glad. You guys also like to "goose" each other and laugh hysterically afterward. Silly boys.

You have given us a run for our money this year, health-wise. You had an anaphylactic nut allergy in December, resulting in an ER visit and many post doctor visits. Then, you recently had to stay in the hospital a few days due to your asthma, caused by a common cold virus. You are a trooper, though, and you handle your nightly "bweaving tweatments" very well. You also know that you're "lergic" to nuts. Every time I see some in a store, I ask what it is. It must be getting old to you, because this last time you sighed like you were annoyed and said, "Dey're nuts, Momma. And, if someone twies to give me one I will say, 'No, tank you, I'm lergic!'". Okay, but I'll still hound you about it until you're 18, just so you know! The other day, you were eating a cherry. You took the stem off, gave it to me and said, "Here Momma, I don't fink I need to eat or even touch dis part because I fink I'm lergic to the stems of the cherries." Nice try, Luke. You're too smart for your britches!

Luke, you are so stinking handsome. When you smile, your dimples are adorable. Your very dark brown eyes are going to make those girls come after you soon. I already noticed at church on Saturday that you had about 3 of them chasing you. You weigh 33 pounds and you are 37 inches tall. Just right!

I just love you, sweet boy. SO much! I love that you will always be my first little love, and I love the little boy that you are becoming. I already cry thinking about leaving you at preschool this fall for the first time, much less kindergarten! You are such a joy to our family. Our little Luker.

I love you, Buddy boy.
- Momma
