"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts." ~Washington Irving
Today is Mother's Day. As hard as it is to not be with my own mom on mother's day, I wanted to honor her through this blog.
Here are some of my favorite things about my mom:
1. She has taught me that letting go is the best thing to do for your children. She has never made me feel guilty for living so far away. She has always told me and lived out that the point of parenting is letting go, no matter how hard that is...and she let's go very well.
2. She empathizes so well with people. I love that she can relate so well to me as well as anyone she is around.
3. She is diligent. I learned from her never to do things "half-way"...something I still carry with my to this day.
4. She is BEAUTIFUL!
5. She is real. She doesn't try to be someone she's not.
6. She doesn't make me feel like a crazy person when I probably am! She gets many phone calls on harder days, and I always get off the phone feeling better about myself, my parenting, my relationship with the Lord and my role as a wife. She somehow is able to spur me on and encourage me. She sharpens me in every way.
7. She used to make up songs to the text/material when I had to study for tests...I love that she makes the ordinary very fun!
8. She is forgiving.
9. She is the best Nana I could ever imagine for my kids. As long as I can remember, babies and younger kids have always been drawn to her like a magnet, and my kids are no different. She is one fun Nana!
10. She is wise...so wise. This is probably my favorite quality about her.
11. She is a servant. She is so selfless. She can always sense what I need the most help with and do it! Sometimes, I think she knows me better than myself.
12. She has taught us to love the Lord well. A godly mother is probably one of my greatest blessings in life. I am so thankful for her teaching, which will eternally "grace my head" and "adorn my neck".

Listen, my son, to your father's instructions and do not forsake your mother's teaching, they will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom. Saying "thank you" just doesn't seem like enough! I love you so much!
