Baby food!

It has been so wonderful making homemade baby food for Jack. We didn't do it with Luke, mainly because we just didn't know much about it and how easy it was. But, many friends have made their baby food at home, informing me more about it. Also, we are on a much tighter budget with 2 house payments and Greg's paychecks significantly less than what we have been used to. (This is a good thing for us, by the way.) So, I decided to do homemade baby food for economical reasons, but also because we feel that feeding our kids the freshest fruits and vegetables as possible is the most beneficial for them. (Although, we certainly have nothing against Gerber!)

If you are interested in doing this...it is so simple. I would recommend the Petit Appetit Cookbook. It is helpful in letting you know how long to steam/cook fruits and veggies in order for them to retain the most nutrients.
All you do it steam/cook the fruit or vegetable, puree it in a food processor or blender, freeze it into individual serving sizes in ice trays and then bag up/label each food to store in the freezer! I like to do them all in bulk, which is time-consuming, but well worth it because it lasts for about a month to a month and a half.

This was the fruit basket before...
It was really fun to see how colorful each food came out to be. I got really into it! ;)

Luke and I waited for things to cook, and he was being silly...(and I, apparently, was being scary...hello, eyes!)

Greg and I even spent a Friday night busy cooking together. But, it ended up being so much fun.
This is all for you, Buddy Boy!

I did that once with Parker, and I was surprised to find that I liked it! I made all the food at once the same day, and I will say that was way overwhelming and took a lot more time than I had planned for. BUT. Then it lasted me a month and a half! Amazing! I would have done it again, but by the time we were out, Parker was soooo over being fed by a spoon. She wanted big people finer-foods sooner. That book sounds like a helpful one. If I find myself feeding little babies again in the next few years, I'll remember that one. =)

I make my own baby food too! Our favs are sweet potatoes, butternut squash, carrots, and green peas. My mom bought me The Magic Bullet and I have had so many great suggestions from friends. I also use the book Super Baby Food and the website Weelicious.com. Yeah for making homemade healthy food for our babies!
