Big Boy Bike

After we settled into our new place in Rockwall, we knew it was time for Luke to drop his pacifier. Before he turned 2, we transitioned him to just having his paci while he sleeps. A friend gave us a tip on a good way to do it, so we went for it.

We prepared Luke several days ahead of time by telling him that big boys don't use pacis, and that pretty soon, we were going to say "bye bye" to the pacifiers. Finally, the day came. We collected all of them into a baggie and headed to Target.

On our way, we let him have his last suck on the paci. Momma even got a little sentimental. I felt like the rest of his "babyhood" was leaving us that evening.

We told Luke that he could pick out any "big boy toy", but that he had to give his pacifiers to the cashier in order to get the toy. I am so mad at myself for leaving my camera in the car, because he was so stinkin cute inside of Target! He was so excited, he couldn't even contain himself. He picked out a really cool "CARS"-themed tricycle. Then, he SPRINTED to the front, and got bashful when we got to the cashier man, who was probably about 16 years old. Luke so sweetly gave the kid his baggie of pacifiers. The guy looked at us like, "Uh...what am I supposed to do with this?" We just mouthed for him to go with it and just throw them away when we left. He looked at Luke and said, "Oh, good job, buddy!". It was so sweet!

The next morning, Luke "helped" Daddy put the bike together, and he loves it. He'll love it even more when his feet touch the pedals...right now he just walks with his feet.

Luke's personality tends to be very adaptable by nature, so he did great with this. He only asked for his pacifier once that night, and I reminded him where they went. He said, "I need Cack's (Jack's) paci, Momma." Smart kid. He still remembers this event and calls his tricycle his "big boy bike". He will randomly say things like, "Momma, Cack needs his paci. Cack just a baby. Wuke sooooo big boy! Wuke no need pacis anymore." Precious boy. He is growing up way too fast.

What a great idea! I can't believe how big Luke is. Hope to see you soon! :-)
