We had our 36-week check-up today (even though I'm actually going to be 37 weeks tomorrow), and everything looked great. I actually hadn't gained any weight, which didn't seem to be a concern to them. (And I certainly won't complain!)
The big news is that we are already 3 cm. dilated and 70% effaced. Wow. I have been having several contractions and random pains these last few days, so it really didn't surprise me that I am already progressed. With Luke, I was also 3 cm. dilated at 36 weeks, but I wasn't this effaced. He was about a week early.
What does this mean? We don't know yet. We know that Jack is close to coming, and it could likely happen any day now. She said that I definitely won't make it to my due date, and that she would probably induce toward the end of December if he hasn't come on his own yet. She seems to think he will come in the next couple of weeks.
Needless to say, we are now in full "nesting' mode. It's been a little overwhelming trying to prepare for Christmas and a new baby, but we are learning to just trust the Lord with His timing. We will do what we can and trust Him regardless.
We would appreciate your prayers that my family would be able to make it in time for his birth if he comes early. Also, our OB and pediatrician will be out the week after Christmas, and we would love for them to be there as well. It's just comforting for me to have our own doctors there during that time that we already know so well.
