After Luke's Little Gym class this morning, we went to Kohl's and actually got quite a bit of Christmas shopping done. Yippee! By the time we were finished, Luke was getting quite restless in his stroller. We kept him entertained by letting him play with a toy firetruck that was LOUD...I'm sure the whole store heard that stinkin siren! We didn't intend to buy it, but somehow it ended up in our bag and on our receipt...hmmm...how does that happen?
Anyway, Luke was getting restless, so Greg took him outside to walk around while I stayed inside and paid for everything. I got to the register, and the cashier looked at my belly wide-eyed and this was the conversation:
Cashier: "So, when are you due?"
Me: "In just a couple of weeks actually."
Cashier: "Wow, is it a boy or a girl?"
Me: "We're having a boy. Our second little boy."
Cashier: "Well, that sucks."
Me: (astonished) "No, not exactly. We're thrilled."
Cashier: "Well, I guess two boys is better than having two girls."
Can you believe that someone could tell someone else that it "sucks" to be having two boys (or two girls, for that matter)? What's crazy is that she is not the first stranger to make a comment like that. In case you're one of those that "feels sorry" for me (I've heard that one, too) for having two boys, please don't. We are SO BLESSED to be able to raise these two boys that the Lord has given us. We could not be more excited.
I'm sorry you had to hear that, Jack Ryan. Nothing about you "sucks"... I already know that, sweet boy!

oh, my, word! some people are so ignorant. did you go through a whole list of things you wish you would have said after you left.... if not... here's mine...
"you should put your mouth in a prison... locked behind bars. it has nothing worth letting out!"
we are thrilled for you guys too! he is a total blessing... all three of your boys are!
we love you all! sorry that you met stupidity!
That is a seriously bizarre thing for a person to say about a baby! I mean, maybe the nausea "sucks", or the back pain "sucks", but really? The sex?
oh man... good thing i wasn't there.
So funny that you blogged about this. When I told one of my friends (who has 2 girls) that we were having a boy, her response was "Oh, I am so sorry." I didnt know how to respond but I felt the same way you do! Love those little boys!
