Snow Days

When my parents gave my boys their adorable snow boots for Lake Tahoe, I had no clue just how useful they would end up being. It has snowed THREE times since January, and we also experienced the coldest days in 20 years earlier this month. Our local school district canceled school for FOUR straight days, then another day the next week. Unheard of for our area! I told Greg, "What's funny is that, based on the last 2 winters, our kids think that snow is normal!" Since we had a white Christmas last year, the first thing Luke did on Christmas morning was race to the window, look outside, and said, "But, where's all the snow?" Sweet boy, he's in for some disappointing Christmases! :)

The Super Bowl was that weekend, so it made me laugh that all of the media coverage was centered on that. Forget the people who were trapped in their car on a thick blanket of ice with no rescue in sight...we must focus on the Super Bowl! Priorities!

My boys LOVED the snow, especially Luke. Sometimes I wish we lived in a snowier area, because he is in his element in the snow. Forget the fact that the windchill is less than zero, let's go play!

This was the first time it snowed on a Sunday in January. We got a couple of inches. My brother's car is in the background, because he had just had surgery for his kidney stone. Poor Jason!

I just loved Jack's face here. I could just hear him saying, "REAL COOOLD!"

Happy Luke

I love the progression of throwing a snowball in the next three pics:

Pride!

We brought lots of toys out and had fun!

The next winter weather was in February. First, it iced over. There was just a thick sheet of ice everywhere. It stayed well below freezing for days, so the iced never melted. Then, it snowed NINE inches on the fourth day. I measured it and couldn't believe it! They were just expecting a dusting to one inch. It was a fun surprise to wake up to! Greg stayed home most of those days, too. Fun family time!

Luke decided he was ready to go like this: "But, Momma, I put my boots on!" Haha!

Jack couldn't believe it!

What started out with a fun ride on a tarp, materialized into much more fun...
Landon, our neighbor, enjoying the snow falling

Poor Reid was not such a fan...his face says it all here:

Wagon rides in the snow! Fun!

Aaron (our neighbor) and Greg are really little boys at heart. They joked about getting his kayak out, but I thought they were just joking...until I see Aaron rounding the corner like this:

Did I mention he's a little boy at heart? They were having a blast!

Jack in the street, watching his crazy neighbor and his crazy daddy:

Yes, Greg got the Tahoe out to pull the kayak, and, yes, it was safe! My favorite part is the blob of Luke at the bottom right. The boy loves the snow!

All the boys got to ride in the kayak. Here is Greg with Jack. Jack was DONE with cold hands by this point and screaming.

So , we headed inside and made chocolate snow ice cream!

Yummy!

Thumbs up for snow ice cream!

Jack's got a little too runny...snow milk shake!

We had some pretty awesome icicles!

A picture of our snowy back yard...
Now, I'm off to play with my boys outside...it's 70 degrees! Crazy Texas!
