Jack is ONE!

Jack's birthday was a month and a half ago, but, what can I say? No excuses - blogging just hasn't been a priority.

Jack has a special birthday - New Year's Eve. Everyone parties on his birthday! My parents were able to come visit after Christmas and stay to celebrate Little Man's first birthday. On the days and weeks approaching his big day, Luke asked daily, "Is it Gack's birfday yet? Is Gack one yet?". I think he was more excited than anybody to celebrate his baby brother.

On his birthday morning, alas, Jack woke up with a fever. A very high fever. I had to take him to an emergency clinic. They found nothing...probably just a virus. (After 5 days of fever, we eventually took him to our pediatrician, who informed us that he probably had roseola and a definite ear infection. Poor Jack and his ears!)

The fever didn't stop him from enjoying his first taste of "real" sweets: a cinnamon roll. Yummy! We put a candle on it and sang "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" to him. Then, he went after it:

I think he was a fan!

Greg had to work that day, so we stayed home and let the sick birthday boy play. Here are a few pics from the day taken from my mom's camera.

Luke & Jack hangin with Bapa. I kid you not, Jack has a special connection with my dad. He has always been naturally drawn to him. Bapa has a gift of compassion...especially when people are sick. So, Jack hung with him a lot of the day. My dad even kept both of the boys while my mom and I ran errands to get ready for his party.

Sad this one is blurry!

Fever? What fever?

We took this picture at 7:20 pm...exactly one year old!

It was early to bed for the sick one-year-old. But, Luke got to stay up and light the sparklers with Daddy for New Years. He LOVED it, even thought it was bitterly cold outside.

Overall, fun day! Next post will be about his birthday party and updates on the cute, blue-eyed one-year-old himself.
