I didn't want to go without a post devoted to our Hawaii trip with my family. What a PERFECT time for a vacation! Greg was starting his new job after Thanksgiving. It was a great time to enjoy the beautiful setting, weather and our family. Also, Thanksgiving came at a perfect time. The second half of 2009 was pretty rocky for us on many levels, but, as always, God's provision is perfect. We are grateful for the opportunity we had to get away, and thank our Jehovah Jirah...our God that provides. His grace is sufficient to provide all that we need...we are living proof of that! (Philippians 4:19)
We started off by flying to California and spending a few days with the family there. Then, we set off for Maui. I am so thankful for my parents' help on the plane ride! Luke was Nana's little buddy the entire way. One exciting thing through this trip was when we realized how Luke was officially potty-trained. He did not go to the bathroom in his pull-up one time on the trip...he used the potty every time! Yay, Luke! We stopped in Honolulu for a long layover, then made the short 30 minute trip to Maui.
Our hotel never disappoints...it's beautiful, and it's right on Kaanapali Beach...one of Hawaii's best! We initially had a "scenic view" that was adjoined to my parent's room, which was nice. The balconies even connected. But, the next day, my parents A/C went out in their room, and they negotiated that they would move to a different room as long as we could move, too. Well, we scored big time. We were moved to an ocean view room, with this gorgeous view:
We really didn't venture out too much from our resort, mainly because all of the island activities are expensive, and we just couldn't afford it this time. Next time we go, we want to bike down the Haleakala Volcano at sunrise and do some ziplines.
We went to a luau one evening for dinner, which Luke enjoyed. Jack, not so much!
This is what a Hawaiian mullet looks like:
Thanksgiving dinner was so nice, but it was pretty late, and Luke was quite the delirious boy. Whew! Good thing there weren't too many people in the restaurant!
All in all, it was a wonderful trip! Greg and I sat through a timeshare sales pitch. Obviously, we said "NO!", but we did get a free 3-day trip to Lake Tahoe from just sitting through it. Plus, it was pretty informative, and it's something we would like to do in the future, if we can afford it.
It was also good to get to know my sister's boyfriend, Jules, as well as my brother Billy's girlfriend, Christiane a little better.
Here are a few pictures of the trip. These are just some of the photos from my camera. My parents posted their pictures on my smugmug site.
